March 1st, Bowie High school has elected their new Student of the Month. This month's winner was Ellie Coulston, a freshman who dedicates her time to her studies and those around her.Ellie was crowned student of the month after her fellow peers anonymously elected her.
Coulston was elected for her great attitude and studious ways. The amount of community service she has put in allows her to be a good role model for her fellow peers.
Multiple of Coulston's close friends had nice things to say about her including, "Ellie is a great student and friend and i'm happy she is being recognized for it!" former Student of the Month Jenni Cootes said. Coulston agrees that to be Student of the Month you have to posses good characteristics. "Being Student of the Month means being a good role model, making good grades, being respectful and involved," winner Ellie Coulston said.
Coulston also enjoys spending time at Austin Pets Alive where she volunteers. "We love having someone as helpful as Ellie be apart of our team every weekend," Manager Micheal Summers said. Coulston enjoys volunteering at Austin Pets Alive, as well as the Students Tutoring Center.
Coulston describes winning Student of the Month as "a wonderful surprise!"."I was caught off guard... I wasn't focused on the award so it came as a surprise, a good surprise nonetheless" Coulston said. Coulston believes winning unknowingly is a better way to win then trying to run for the award. "I think I enjoyed winning the award more because it was unexpected. If i had known and pushed people to vote for me, i would have not appreaciated it as much" Ellie Coulston said. Coulston's parents were extremely proud of her for being selected. "We've tried our hardest to push the importance of being kind onto her, and she has definitely taken our advice and done great things with it," parents Anna and Chris Coulston said. Ellie doesn't believe she'll win again, but wants to continue doing what she believes will help the community. "All that I've ever wanted to do is create a positive difference within my community. I'll try to do my best in school, and hopefully inspire others to work hard even after the month is over," March Student of the Month Ellie Coulston said.
